Keep your eyes open if you’re on the beach at dusk or dawn. We very often see dolphins swimming right off shore. If the dolphins come in close, which they do occasionally, do not get in the water and try to touch them. It is illegal to touch the dolphins (we humans have germs that harm the dolphins). The Manatees frequent our Gulf coast waters too. Watch for their trademark “circle” footprint.
LIGHTS OUT ~ The Sea Turtle nesting season in Florida runs from May 1st through October 31st. Please remember to keep porch and balcony lights out during these months so the hatchlings are not confused; they head towards the moonlight over the Gulf of Mexico, but become distracted if balcony lights are left on. Thanks to your cooperation, we’ll continue to help protect our sea creatures.
A fun, inexpensive thing to do is to rent the personal watercraft, kayaks or paddleboards just down the beach. There are also scoot coupe, scooter, bicycle, skateboard or roller blade rentals nearby too. Even if you don’t fish, make sure to experience a walk out on one the local fishing piers such as the Skyway Fishing Pier to the South or Pier 60 on Clearwater Beach to the North. The Sunsets at Pier 60 Festival is a venue where performance art in the Tampa Bay area is presented on many levels. On any given night, you may see a variety of acts including fire breathers, escape artists, magicians, stilt walkers, crafters and much more. The Sunset Cinema is another highlight on the weekends, a FREE family friendly event to bring a blanket or some chairs and catch a movie outdoors under the stars. Concessions available on-site.
New Splash Harbor located on Indian Rocks Beach offers water slide fun along with a lazy river. There are a few Putt-Putt options on the beaches too. The Suncoast Seabird Sanctuary located on Indian Shores is a bird hospital where many birds are able to be rehabilitated before being released back into the wild is accessible by the local trolley too.
There are lots of public golf courses in the area to choose from or even a tennis match at courts not far from the condo. A short trolley ride of about 5 miles to John’s Pass is a great day, whether you want to go shopping or just grab a bite to eat at the many waterside restaurants to choose from. This quaint fishing village offers adventures from sunset cruises, dolphin cruises to fishing excursions.
Busch Gardens, a theme park that features exhilarating rides and animal attractions along with their water park Adventure Island is less than an hour away. Zoo Tampa at Lowry Park offers a more intimate view of animals without the huge theme park atmosphere. Watch the Tampa Bay Rays baseball team at In-door, air-conditioned Tropicana Field where you can enjoy a game even in our rare inclement weather. Downtown Saint Petersburg offers the Dali Museum that showcases a large collection of the painter’s works.
For those of you that want to travel a bit further there is Disney’s Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Hollywood Studios, Animal Kingdom and their waterparks Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach. Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure along with Sea World offering an optional Discovery Cove Experience and their waterpark Aquatica are all just a couple hours away and offer full days of entertainment.
